Dieting En Route

I'm so grateful to be on a sensible food plan right now.

My son's periodic medication management appointments are very stressful. I usually buy a sandwich before I go, and I nosh on this and that. Today, I had to make sure to bring along my own food, and I really took care of myself. After getting weighed at the center in the morning, I came home and had a nice big sunnyside up eggs - 3 whites and one yolk - with  2 slices of whole wheat bread, and assorted veggies I had cut up on Sunday. After Toddler's bus I took at 40 minute nap since I was awake since 5:55 a.m. and was bombed. After running out to take care of last-minute errands for the appointment - take money out of the ATM, buy food for the trip, and some sensory toys for Yoni to play with in the car - I made sure to sit down and eat a nice juicy grapefruit to fill me up until I could eat lunch later. Then I toasted half a whole wheat pita and filled it with tuna in water which I had mashed with lite mayo earlier in the week to use for lunches every day, and I mixed in some veggies too. I threw in a bottle of water, an orange, and an energy bar. I ended up eating the sandwich at 2:15 while sitting in the car for close to two hours in bumper to bumper traffic. I ate the orange on the way home. And I felt so good that I had managed to stick to my diet despite the hectic and crazy day.

Before I left I ordered pizza and fries for the kids for supper. It was delivered while I was still in the car on the way home. I walked into the house after five hours away, famished, and yes, I treated myself to a slice of pizza. Without fries. And followed by a big salad.

Dieting has forced me to take care of myself, and to eat well, no matter the circumstances.
